Emily Jeanette GarciaAn unidentified body was found on February 25, 1993 approximately 1.5 miles north on Old Cranes Mill Road off of Highway 46 in Canyon Lake, Texas by a road crew. The decomposing body was reported to the New Braunfels Police and Comal County Sheriff’s Office. The body was listed as a Jane Doe.

The medical examiners concluded that Jane Doe was a victim of murder and that she was carrying an unborn child.

A year later a friend of the murder victim phoned the family about the Jane Doe being a possible match to a teen who went missing from San Antonio.

It was verified from a fingerprint card that Jane Doe was the body of 15-year-old Emily Jeanette Garcia, who was reported missing on February 12, 1993 from San Antonio, TX.

Emily Jeanette Garcia was born on July 27, 1977 in Fort Hood, Texas to Roy Garcia and Sheila Smith-Ramirez. She is the younger sister of Elizabeth Garcia and according to authorities she was about 3 months pregnant at the time of her death however, family members say she was further into her pregnancy then what’s listed. In fact, she was able to determine that her unborn child was male and had already picked out the name Emilio.

February 12, 1993, the day of her disappearance, Garcia had boarded the city bus in San Antonio, Texas to go to an appointment with the health service to see how far along she was in her pregnancy. Her mother had occupied her and stayed with her till she boarded the bus for her appointment and then Sheila went on to her job. Emily never made it to her appointment and that was the last time her mother had seen her daughter alive.

Garcia was kidnapped and held against her will for twelve days. She had been raped, beaten and murdered by strangulation. There isn’t a description of a suspect available.

Initially her body was buried as Jane Doe in Bracken Cemetery on March 30, 1993 by Zoeller’s Funeral Home, but was later exhumed and buried as Emily Jeanette Garcia in Somerset, Texas by her family.

According to Garcia’s mother, Sheila Smith-Ramirez, they received a copy of the original Death Certificate on Sept 9, 2003, but it did not list her daughter as Jane Doe instead, it said N/A. They also have her listed as Caucasian and not of Hispanic Origin, which she was.  The cause of death is listed as strangulation, but newspaper articles claimed she had been sexually abused and that she was already dead before the killer(s) tied her up.

So as you can see, there are many inconsistencies in this case.

Garcia’s case is still open and still being investigated by New Braunfels Police Department, Texas Rangers and the San Antonio FBI. The agencies have not had any leads in years and Garcia’s case fades away as the years go on. However, It has NOT faded with family and loved ones who remain devastated decades later. They’re still determined to find out who is responsible for the death of Garcia and her unborn child. You can visit a website memorial for additional information on Emily Garcia.

A Lifetime movie titled The Killing Secret was made which recreates the abduction and murder of Emily Garcia. Clicking the link will bring you to the full movie which has been posted on YouTube. Scenes have been dramatized.

Her case remains unsolved.

11/12/12, TEXAS — Thirty-four alleged members of the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas gang (ABT), including four of its most senior leaders, have been indicted by a federal grand jury in Houston for allegedly conspiring to participate in a racketeering enterprise, announced Assistant Attorney General Lanny A. Breuer of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division, U.S. Attorney Kenneth Magidson of the Southern District of Texas, Special Agent in Charge Melvin D. King of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and FBI Special Agent in Charge Stephen L. Morris.

The 17-count superseding indictment was returned by a federal grand jury on Oct. 22, 2012, and unsealed on Friday, Nov. 9, in U.S. District Court in the Southern District of Texas. Fourteen individuals were taken into custody and 15 defendants charged in the superseding indictment are already in custody. Five defendants remain at large.

“Today’s takedown represents a devastating blow to the leadership of ABT,” said Breuer. “Four ABT generals, 13 additional alleged ABT leaders and numerous other gang members and associates are named in the indictment. As charged, ABT uses extreme violence and threats of violence to maintain internal discipline and retaliate against those believed to be cooperating with law enforcement. Through violence and intimidation, ABT allegedly exerts control over prison populations and neighborhoods, and instills fear in those who come in contact with its members. As today’s operations show, the Criminal Division, working closely with its federal, state and local law enforcement partners, is determined to continue disrupting and dismantling ABT and other violent, criminal gangs.”

This indictment is the culmination of a joint federal, state and local law enforcement effort targeting a large-scale prison gang involved in violent organized crime,” said Magidson. “Only when we work in partnership utilizing all our resources can we attack a criminal organization and dismantle it entirely.”

“ATF is serious about fighting violent crime. We remain steadfast in our commitment to focus on those violent criminals who illegally use firearms to prey on their victims,” said King. “Through a collective effort with our law enforcement partners this operation was a success today.”

“This multi-year investigation and indictment clearly targets the worst-of-the-worst among the ABT,” said Morris. “This effort not only exemplifies the level of effort the FBI and our law enforcement partners will expend to prevent prison gang racism and criminal activity from poisoning our communities. It sends a clear message that we will relentlessly pursue and prosecute the leaders and members of these criminal enterprises regardless of where they lay their heads.”

As charged, the defendants range from senior leaders to soldiers of the ABT, a “whites only,” prison-based gang with members operating inside and outside of state and federal prisons throughout Texas and elsewhere in the United States since at least the early 1980s.

According to court documents, the ABT has a detailed and uniform organizational structure, with territory divided into five regions, each run by a “general.” The superseding indictment charges four generals, Terry Ross Blake, 55, aka “Big Terry;” Larry Max Bryan, 51, aka “Slick;” William David Maynard, 42, aka “Baby Huey;” and Charles Lee Roberts, 68, aka “Jive,” with conspiracy to participate in the racketeering activities of the ABT, among other charges.

In total, the superseding indictment charges 34 alleged members of the ABT with conspiracy to participate in the racketeering activities of the ABT. Alleged members of the ABT are also charged with involvement in three murders, multiple attempted murders, kidnappings, assaults and conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine and cocaine.

According to the superseding indictment, the ABT was established in the early 1980s within the Texas prison system. The gang modeled itself after and adopted many of the precepts and writings of the Aryan Brotherhood, a California-based prison gang that was formed in the California prison system during the 1960s. According to court documents, previously, the ABT was primarily concerned with the protection of white inmates and white supremacy/separatism. Over time, the ABT is alleged to have has expanded its criminal enterprise to include illegal activities for profit.

Court documents allege the ABT enforced its rules and promoted discipline among its members, prospects and associates through murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to murder, arson, assault, robbery and threats against those who violate the rules or pose a threat to the enterprise. Members, and oftentimes associates, were required to follow the orders of higher-ranking members, often referred to as “direct orders.”

According to the superseding indictment, in order to be considered for membership, a person must be sponsored by another ABT member. Once sponsored, a prospective member must serve an unspecified term, during which he is referred to as a prospect, while his conduct is observed by the members of the ABT.

Ten defendants have been charged with offenses that are eligible for the death penalty. The remaining 24 defendants face a maximum penalty of life in prison.

This case is being investigated by a multi-agency task force consisting of the ATF, Drug Enforcement Administration, FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, Federal Bureau of Prisons, Homeland Security Investigations, Texas Rangers, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Texas Department of Criminal Justice – Office of Inspector General as well as sheriff’s offices in Harris, Montgomery, Orange, Tarrant, Atascosa and Waller Counties, police departments in Houston, Baytown, Fort Worth, San Antonio, Carrollton and Alvin, and district attorney’s Offices in Harris, Montgomery, Atascosa and Kaufman Counties.

The case is being prosecuted by David Karpel of the Criminal Division’s Organized Crime and Gang Section and Assistant U.S. Attorney Jay Hileman of the Southern District of Texas.

10/30/12 CROSBY, TX — Homicide investigators are re-examining a number of unsolved slayings of prostitutes whose bodies were found in eastern Harris County over the past 10 years as part of an investigation into a Crosby security guard charged with attacking three prostitutes and murdering a fourth, the case prosecutor said.

Steven Alexander Hobbs, 40, was arraigned Wednesday for allegedly kidnapping and shooting Sarah Annette Sanford, 48, whose nude body was found under a pile of brush near Crosby on Oct. 1, 2010. Sanford’s clothing was found near her body, which was concealed beneath some twigs and a log.

Hobbs was charged in her death after a DNA sample investigators obtained from the security guard matched biological evidence found in Sanford’s mouth, on handcuffs used to bind her hands and feet and on a nearby cigarette butt, said Harris County Assistant District Attorney Katherine McDaniel.

The prosecutor confirmed authorities are looking at Hobbs as a suspect in past homicides, noting he worked as a security guard in the area for a number of years and has lived in eastern Harris County for some time. She encouraged other victims or anyone who’s related to a prostitute who was slain to contact the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

“The sheriff’s department has an excellent cold case squad, and they are meticulously going through any cases that match this area and this general manner and means” of death, McDaniel said. “We’re looking at every single one. Generally speaking, there is a number of prostitutes who have been found dead in that area in the last 10 years.”

Hobbs, an imposing man who stands 6 foot 3 and weighs 350 pounds, made his first court appearance Wednesday.

“We plan to contest the capital murder charge and plead not guilty,” said Allen Isbell, one of two Houston attorneys appointed to defend Hobbs. “As I understand it, he comes from a good background and is a college graduate.”

Past victims

Sheriff’s investigators have for years worked to solve the killings of three women linked to prostitution and drug use whose bodies were found in the area around Crosby. They are among a dozen unsolved slayings in and around Barrett Station.

The body of Aritha Boyce, 37, was found beneath the U.S. 90 bridge over the San Jacinto River in July 2002, the plastic ties used to strangle still around her neck. The other victim, Patricia Pyatt, 38, was last seen walking from her Crosby home. Her remains were found in November 2002, beneath the old Beaumont highway bridge, and she had also been strangled.

DNA evidence

The murder case against Hobbs unfolded after the disappearance this summer of Wanda Trombley, 57, a known prostitute whose badly decomposed body was found along a Pasadena street on Sept. 22. Hobbs is considered a person of interest in that case.

Pasadena police detectives began questioning prostitutes in the area, and located three who described separate incidents of being picked up by a large man who attacked them physically or sexually, or both.

“They all were describing this very large white male, with red hair, driving a white van, who was a security guard who was abducting and raping women and then letting them off,” McDaniel said.

Sheriff’s investigators contacted security firms in the area, and obtained consensual DNA samples from employees, including Hobbs, the prosecutor said. The DNA sample linked Hobbs to evidence gathered at Sanford’s crime scene.

Family shocked

Pasadena police detectives arrested Hobbs this month and charged him with the unrelated assaults on two prostitutes, and the kidnapping and sexual assault of a third woman.

Hobbs’ arrest shocked his family, who insist the allegations are out of character to a hard-working, dedicated family man, said defense attorney Stanley Schneider.

“And everything I’ve heard about Steven has just been outstanding – he’s reliable, honest, trustworthy, loved, admired,” Schneider said. “He’s a college graduate, he’s been married for 18 years, with constant and steady employment.”

Too many mugs, too many shots = a mugshot requiring assistance

And a mugshot requiring assistance = MUGSHOT OF THE YEAR (2012)

Detectives have been trying to solve this cold case for years – maybe you can help.

Blonde, blue-eyed, beautiful and blessed with a bubbly personality – the quintessential girl next door. That was Sharon Marshall. She was also very intelligent, an avid reader near the top of her high school class, listed in Who’s Who of American High School Students, a Lt. Colonel in the ROTC and she had earned a full scholarship to Georgia Tech University where she planned to study aerospace engineering. Sharon proudly graduated from high school in Forest Park, GA in 1986.

Only her name wasn’t really Sharon Marshall – she didn’t know what her real name was. Nor did she know who her parents were or even what day, month, year or in which city or state she was born. It is thought that Sharon was born sometime in the late 1960’s although no one knows for sure because Sharon had been kidnapped when she was just a toddler, probably sometime between 1973-1975.

Franklin Delano Floyd, a psychopath, sexual predator and convicted felon, abducted and raised Sharon as his own daughter while posing as her ailing father, all the while sexually abusing her from a very young age. Floyd would later claim that he had “rescued” Sharon when she was unwanted and abandoned by her biological parents.

The first known public record of Sharon exists in 1975 in an Oklahoma City school where she was registered under the alias “Suzanne Davis“.

SUZANNE DAVIS – 1975

Sharon’s good natured personality and good grades ultimately worked against her. Although she had few friends and sometimes dressed inappropriately, no one was suspicious of the young lady who had to be home by 4:30 p.m. everyday to help her sick father or wondered why she moved so often that she was in the fourth school in a single year during her high school career. If anyone did get curious and questioned her about the whereabouts of her mother, Sharon would explain that when she was a young girl her mother had died of cancer or she was known to tell others, her mother had died in a fatal car accident. When the questions became too probing or intense Floyd and Sharon would pick up and move to places like Oklahoma City, Louisville, Atlanta, Phoenix, Tampa, New Orleans and Tulsa.

It is known that upon her graduation Sharon moved to Phoenix, AZ.  Sometime during the next couple of years Floyd and Sharon moved to Tampa, FL where she gave birth to a baby boy on March 21, 1988 using the alias “Tonya Dawn Tadlock”. She subsequently named the baby Michael Anthony Hughes and it is thought she used the last name Hughes because at the time, Floyd was using the aliases Charles Hughes and Clarence Marcus Hughes although, he also used many other aliases over the span of his criminal career. The natural assumption is that Floyd was Michael’s biological father, however, this theory was disproved with DNA test results in the 1990’s.

DEATH ROW - Current Mug Shot
DEATH ROW – Current Mug Shot

During this time period, Sharon began to work as an exotic dancer, her dreams of studying aerospace engineering by now a distant memory. Sharon made friends with Cheryl Ann Commesso, 19, an exotic dancer who worked at the same club. Cheryl was beaten and killed by two shots to the back of the head in 1989. She was dumped along Florida Interstate 275 and for a long time was known simply as “Jane Doe I-275″. Soon after, Floyd and Sharon left Florida and shortly after that, the trailor they had occupied burned to the ground.

In yet another twist to this stranger than fiction story, Sharon and Floyd were married in 1989 in New Orleans under the aliases Clarence Marcus Hughes and Tonya Dawn Tadlock. Floyd and Sharon, along with Michael, then headed to Oklahoma.

In April of 1990 Sharon was killed in a suspicious hit and run accident while both she and Floyd were being sought in connection with Cheryl Ann Commesso’s murder investigation. Floyd remains the primary suspect in the hit and run that killed his daughter/wife.

After his mother’s death, when DNA test results proved conclusively that Floyd was not Michael’s biological father, Floyds visitation rights were terminated and Michael was put into foster care. His foster parents, who had begun formal adoption proceedings, reported that when he first came to them Michael was non-verbal, had limited muscle control and often exhibited hysterical behavior. While in their care, however, Michael apparently made great progress.

In the final twist to this bizarre and sad story, Michael was kidnapped by Floyd from Indian Meridian Elementary School in Choctaw, OK on September 12, 1994. He held school officials at gunpoint and forced Michael and the school principal into the principal’s pick-up truck. Eventually Floyd let the principal go, basically unharmed but traumatized, tied to a tree. Young Michael was never seen again.

Floyd was arrested two months later in Kentucky where he steadfastedly refused to give any information as to Michael’s whereabouts. Floyd claimed Michael was out of the country or possibly in the Atlanta, GA area. However, multiple witnesses have come forward saying Floyd confessed to them that he murdered Michael by drowning him in a bathtub, somewhere in the Atlanta area. Still other witnesses say they saw Floyd bury Michael’s’ body in a grave. Floyd was tried and sentenced to 55 yrs in prison for Michael’s kidnapping.

Some time later, a mechanic working on Floyd’s old pick-up truck, which had been auctioned, discovered a multitude of photos wedged over the gas tank. The explicit photographs clearly proved Sharon had been subjected to sexual abuse her entire life. In addition, photos showing Cheryl Ann Commesso beaten and bound and sitting on the sofa in Floyd’s old trailor in Florida, were discovered along with photos of other females. These photographs were used as evidence against Floyd in the Commesso murder trial in 2002 where he was later convicted and sent to death row.

After Sharon’s death, upon further investigation into Floyd’s background, investigators learned that he was a career criminal who had first been arrested at the age of 17 in a gunfight with law enforcement during a burglary. Floyd was also arrested for abducting and raping a young woman at a bowling alley in 1962. All told, Floyd has admitted to convicting at least 19 felonies.

Floyd has not been convicted of either Sharon or Michael’s murders but is still under investigation for both crimes. He has a documented history of schizophrenia, was raised by two alcoholic parents and at some point was turned over to an orphanage by his mother who never came back to retrieve him. Floyd’s defense attorneys presented these facts in his defense at his trials in an attempt to solicit sympathy from the juries.

Franklin Delano Floyd now sits on death row at the Union Correctional Institution in Raiford, FL.

Sadly, Michael Hughes has never been located and is presumed dead. His mother “Sharon Marshall” still remains unidentified and is buried in Choctaw, OK.
