1974 Cold Case – Clinton, Connecticut
On January 31, 1975 several children playing behind a store in Clinton, CT made a gruesome discovery. Deep within a path was a bag which was covered in weeds. They took a peek inside and noticed the deceased body of an infant child. Authorities were alerted and the baby, who was described as being female with blonde-colored-hair, was given a name. Baby X.
According to the medical examiner, Baby X had been born less than one month prior to her discovery and died from exposure to the chilly weather and possible suffocation.
Despite the case receiving local and national attention in the Winter of ’74, nobody came forward. Authorities put up a $25,000 reward for anyone with information leading to the suspect(s) involved, most likely the infant’s mother. Six years after news broke out about the child, an anonymous caller phoned police. It was an unidentified woman claiming she knew who abandoned the baby. The unknown caller said she would call back but never did.
To this day no one knows what Baby X’s name is or who abandoned her. Almost thirty years after her death flowers are still routinely decorate her grave but by who?
