FBI-Top-10-Fugitives

Click here for individuals descriptions of each fugitive listed.

On March 13, 2013, the FBI updated its list of “Ten Most Wanted Fugitives” by adding the name Edwin Rivera Gracias – seen here, bottom row, 3rd from left.

According to the FBI’s website, the list is a publicity program designed to publicize particularly dangerous fugitives who might not otherwise merit nationwide attention, according to the FBI’s website.

The program was founded on March 14, 1950, when a reporter asked late FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover for the names and descriptions of the “toughest guys” the Bureau would like to capture. The resulting article generated so much publicity and had so much appeal that Hoover implemented the top ten program.

Since its inception, 497 fugitives have been on the top ten list. Among those listed, the FBI says that 466 have been apprehended or located, including 154 fugitives who were captured or located as a result of citizen cooperation.

The current top ten list is maintained on the FBI website and relies on the assistance of citizens and the media. A reward of up to $100,000 is offered by the FBI for information which leads directly to the arrest of a Top Ten fugitive. Members in the Top Ten list are not ranked.

Authorities having been searching for Jason Derek Brown, 43, who has been on the run since late 2004 when he shot an armored car guard and fled with stolen money in Phoenix, Arizona, right outside of a Phoenix movie theater.

Immediately after being named the suspect in the homicide, Brown fled Phoenix and went to Henderson, Nevada and later travelled to Las Vegas. While there, he had swapped his BMW for a black Escalade. In January, 2005, authorities found Brown’s Cadillac Escalade abandoned in the parking lot of Portland International Airport in Oregon.

The one-time Salt Lake City resident and Laguna Beach native who attended Laguna Beach High School, could now be taking advantage of Mormon church members to stay hidden from public view, the FBI’s lead agent on the case said.

Although Brown is described as a ‘show off’ who likes to party, authorities believe he could be hiding among the Mormon and say he is a ‘skilled liar’ who has a ‘surfer dude’  appearance and a common name which could help him easily blend in among a crowd. He also speaks fluent French and is a former Mormon who once served LDS mission in France.

On December 8, 2007, three years after his first degree murder charge, Brown was listed on FBI’s Most Wanted List as the 489th Most Wanted fugitive and FBI has been looking for him ever since. It’s now 2013 and the Federal Bureau of Investigation has now upgraded him to FBI’s Top 10 Most Wanted Fugitives.

In 2005, less than one year after the murder, authorities received over 200 leads with the majority of leads being outside of Arizona, even some possible sightings in Canada. Most of the sightings haven’t been confirmed however, if it is then he could be on the move in any state.

The most recent confirmed sighting was in August 2008, when an acquaintance of Brown recognized him while they were stopped at a traffic light near Hogle Zoo in Salt Lake City. Their mutual recognition prompted Brown to drive through the stoplight. Aware that Brown was a fugitive, the witness informed police of the sighting. According to him, Brown had longer hair and a deeper tan than in the 2004 photograph of his wanted poster. Brown is considered armed and extremely dangerous and those with a possible sighting should contact police immediately and avoid confronting Brown themself.

A 20-year-old college student died after  being struck by a single punch while protecting two female friends from a  carload of attackers in a quiet Minnesota college town.  The blow knocked Colton Gleason to the  ground, causing him to hit his head on the pavement. He died of head trauma  hours later at the hospital.

Police are calling the attack in St Cloud  random and do no know why the five to seven occupants of the car confronted Mr  Gleason in an alley near the campus of St Cloud State University.

Colton Gleason was studying business at Minnesota State University

Pictured; Colten Gleason (Victim)

His horrifying death, from just one punch to  the face, has shocked his friends and family.

‘This was a violent, unnecessary and  senseless crime,’ his father John Gleason told the Minneapolis Star-Tribune. ‘We want justice. We’re still  trying to get some direction out of this.’

‘Please God, no. Tell me this is not  happening,’ his friend Johanna Heidmann tweeted on Friday. ‘I will never  understand God’s plan or why he does the things he does. Rest in peace Colton I  love you and miss you so much already.’

Mr Gleason, who was studying business at  Minnesota State University-Mankato, had traveled an hour from his hometown of  Greenfield to St Cloud to visit his friends.

They were walking in a residential alley near  the St Cloud State University campus about 11.30pm on Friday when a  light-colored four-door sedan with five to seven people inside pulled up.

Officers believe the occupants were on the  way to a nearby party. The car was so close to Mr Gleason, he put  his hands on it to prevent the vehicle from hitting his friends, his father  says. The car stopped and at least one man got out. The man then hit Mr Gleason in the face,  knocking him to the ground. He bashed his head on the asphalt in the fall. After the attack, the car sped away.

John Gleason said he has no doubt his son was  protecting his friends from the assailant. ‘My son put himself in harm’s way and it cost  him his life,’ the older Gleason told the Star-Tribune.

Police are hoping someone in the car will  come forward to report what they saw.

A $1,000 reward is being offered, though  investigators so far are baffled by the random act of violence.

Mr Gleason’s two friends could only provide  vague descriptions of the attacker and the car he rode in.

Mr Gleason was a standout on his high school  football and soccer teams whom friends described as warm and always happy.

‘He was smiling all the time. His interests  were living life to its fullest,’ John Gleason said.’
